Squashing Spyware through Legislation
Fred has posted a "Letter to User Groups" and I think we should all read it. . .
The bill, H.R. 744, in Congress directly addresses spyware and the evils it brings to internet and computer users. Fred is calling for your help in getting the Senate to pass this bill... The Internet Spyware Prevention Act
IMHO: aside from all the other things your group can do to help your membership and advance your mission, you can also help shape the future of computing.
Getting involved by teaching your members about important legislation can go a long way toward making our computing experience better. Consider that the bulk of the population is greatly affected by evils like phishing, spyware and other forms of online crime -- however, very few have the knowledge nor inclination to do anything about it.
User groups can play a vital role, where the general population comes up short. A few letters from your computer club, addressed to your Senator, will get their attention and let them know we're fed up with the criminal element online.
Please read Fred's letter
