Meeting Schedule
What type of meeting is your group running? I ask because the group that I am most active with has been shrinking for some time and I think we need to do something different...
We generally have a member do a presentation and then we have a Q & A session. The member presentations vary in quality and of course in interest. We also usually have a raffle, although sometimes we just have a door prize drawing.
I found this schedule at the Dallas Mac User Group to be interesting (November’s schedule, but similar to previous):
6:30 Help starts at
7:00 Random Access
7:15 Lesson 4 part 2 of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger - Robin William Book
7:30 Mac Module
8:00 iPod and what you can do with it!
I like the idea of an early start. In the past I have run an “AppleSeeds” session for beginners when I was doing programs for Tulsa Users of Macintosh Society (TUMS). We started that session at 6 PM and ran it for an hour. This also covered a lot of the Q&A that previously went on during the regular meeting. About 1/2 the attendees were there by 6:30 meaning most had an interest in the “beginners” sessions. Our presentations were usually by vendors, but we had attendance of 60+ at most meetings and hit right at 100 for an Adobe presentation.
CMUG, (Cowtown MUG), has had terrific presenters in the past from Ambrosia Software’s founder to Bob LeVitus. Our current topics would appear to be more appropriate to our membership, they are not creating any excitement.
What are you doing to get members excited?
