Learn all there is to know about CD-Rs

Recently I had a discussion about CD media. In fact about methods for backing up hard drives. This extended into reliability of different media, including CDs.

The Wikipedia has this article about CD-Rs. It includes a discussion of the history, physical characteristics writing methods, optimal storage conditions, expected lifespan and readability in different drives. ...

Of course, along with the question of reliability of the disk it self is how long the CD will be readable as new technology is developed. With the advent of DVD drives, CDs days are numbered. So be sure to use good quality disks to back up and then keep back them up to new media as soon as the new medial becomes dominate.
